Salaries of at least 6,700 contractual employees engaged with updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) are yet to be cleared, sources said.
“Around 5,500 contractual employees of WIPRO also yet receive their salaries, because of which most of the employees have stopped their pending work at the various NRC Seva Kendras,” the sources added.
The NRC process in the state is running without a ‘boss’ after the former state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela was replaced by Hitesh Dev Sarma, who also went on a month leave.
Drawing guns both at the Centre and Assam government, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMS) said, “It is a conspiracy of the Centre and the Assam government that the salaries of these employees are stalled.”
“We demand the immediate release of the pending salaries of these employees,” the KMSS added.
Over 19 lakh people were left out from the final NRC published on August 31 this year.
