Hundreds of CPI (M) workers took to the streets here on Saturday to protest against the ‘organized attacks’ on their candidates at various places in the state by the ruling BJP supporters.
Former deputy speaker and senior party leader Pabitra Kar who led the protest rally said their candidates Sankar Prashad Datta and Jitendra Choudhury, both sitting MPs, are being attacked by BJP hooligans intending to create a fear among the Left supporters so that they do not take part in the campaigning.
He said on this issue the CPI (M) leaders have already informed the state election commission as well as the Election Commission of India but till now nothing much happened.
Kar also said that the chief minister of the state who is also the BJP president is violating the model code of conduct and so they have complained to the ECI about it.
Kar alleged other opposition parties including Congress are also being targeted in the state.
The CPI(M) demanded a conducive atmosphere in the state so that voters can fearlessly come out to exercise the franchise and if it is guaranteed then CPI(M) will win both the East and West Tripura seats.
The protest rally that started from the Melarmath CPI (M) office passed through the streets of Agartala.
The protesters raised anti-BJP, anti-Modi and anti-Biplab Deb slogans.
