“Those 3 to 4 lakh people who will be eligible to apply for citizenship under the CAA are already here and have built houses for themselves, few even became MLA,” said the minister.

Blaming the Congress for the goof-up, Sarma said that how can the government send back someone who came here in 1972 from Bangladesh?

“BJP is shouldering the burden of Congress mistake as there was Congress government between 1972 to 2014,” he said.

“People ask me why the cut of date of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is 2014?” Sarma said.

“In 2014 Narendra Modi became the Prime minister of India and not an ant has entered India from Bangladesh since then. Bangladesh Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has been asked that not a single Hindu can be touched there,” he said.

“We have the humanitarian consideration and compassion and God has given so much that we can accommodate these people,” he said.

“There was no protest or opposition when the Citizenship Act was amended during the time of Rajiv Gandhi and P V Narshima Rao,” he pointed out.

Saying that the BJP will come back to power in 2021 assembly polls by winning 100 assembly seats, Sarma said that BJP is unstoppable.

“After the violent protest on December 10 and 11 and attacks of BJP workers, some people thought that BJP is finished. But BJP in Assam is unstoppable,” he added.

He said that the tribal in Assam have distanced themselves from the ongoing agitation as the realized that it is not Hindus who have captured the lands in tribals blocks and belts.
