The devastating effects of Cyclone Fani have disrupted flight operations at North Eastern Regional Airports, as per officials of the Airport Authority of India.

“All the Airports in NER are operational but due to bad weather conditions the connecting flights have been cancelled by the airlines. All the airports in NER are opened for normal operations.

AAI official said that a total of 59 flights including arrival and departure have been cancelled from Guwahati airport while Agartala airport had to cancel eight flights. Two flights each were cancelled in Dimapur, Lilabari and at Dibrugarh airport.

Another six flights were cancelled at Imphal airport, he said.

Assam and some other states in the Northeast have been witnessing moderate rainfall since Saturday morning even as the state governments have taken adequate measures to face any eventualities in the aftermath of Fani.

NF Railway officials have also informed that some of the trains from different Northeastern states and in coming transportation to Northeast have been cancelled due to warning related to Fani.

Assam government has also suspended the services of ferries in major waterways including the ferry services between Jorhat to Majuli, Guwahati to North Guwahati, Dhubri etc.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) officials said that the rains have exceeded the water level in some rivers leading to flash floods.

The officials at the regional meteorological centre in Guwahati had earlier warned of heavy rains and strong winds lashing the region on Saturday and Sunday.
