The Sohra Marathon was first organized in 2015 and thereafter in 2016 under the aegis of ‘Run Meghalaya’.

However, it could not take place in 2017, thanks to government apathy.

The organizers have promised ‘romance in the rain’ as runners from across the Northeast will sure to have some ‘adventure in the rain’ as the marathon is rightly dubbed.

The organizers feel that apart from promoting healthy lifestyles and physical fitness, the marathon will also boost tourism in the region.

The organizers revealed that apart from enthusiastic participation from across the north-eastern region, runners from various parts of the country have confirmed their participation.

Even a few runners are coming from Kenya to participate in the marathon to be held at the second wettest placed on earth.

Sohra is the second wettest place in the world after Mawsynram, also in Meghalaya.

The marathon will comprise a full marathon of 42km, half marathon of 21km, a 10 km run and a 5 km fun run.

There will be seven categories based on age, the organizers informed.

The marathon will be run on an internationally certified course, measured by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.

Modern chip timing systems would be used to record the timings, the organizers further added.
