The carcass of a wild elephant was found at Ultapani Daughangpara along Indo-Bhutan border village under Ripu Reserve forest in Kokrajhar district of Assam on Monday.
Some villagers first witnessed the carcass of the elephant and informed the department who rushed to the spot and confirmed the death of the wild pachyderm.

According to Dhiren Basumatary, ranger of the Ultapani Forest Department under Hultugaon Forest Division of Kokrajhar, who led the Forest Department team in visiting the spot suspected that the elephant might have been poisoned.
The elephants have been vising the encroached villages in the reserve forest area in search of food.
The villages of these encroached villages were having a harrowing time as these wild elephants destroy their vegetables, maize, jute and other cultivations.

Forest officials suspect that the villagers might be using medicines to poison the elephants.
Post mortem will be conducted later today and after the post mortem it will be clear whether the elephant was killed by poison or the death occurred due to some other reason.
Villagers of the Ultapani Saralpara Daughangpara encroached village said that they got a foul smell and on reaching the spot saw the carcass of the wild elephant.
