The Assam Congress on Friday launched an all-out attack on the ruling BJP Government in Assam for ‘neglecting’ the perennial floods issue of the State.
The Assam Congress lambasted the BJP for allegedly trying to ‘mislead’ the people of the State by “making vague promises” on solving the floods issue ahead of the Assembly elections.
Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was in Assam on Thursday, had said that if voted to power, the BJP will address the issue of floods in Assam in the next five years.
Reacting to Amit Shah’s remarks, senior Assam Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi accused the BJP Government in Assam of “deceiving the people” of the State.
“How will people trust the BJP again? The BJP promised so much on solving the floods issue. But they failed to address the issue in the last 5 years. The BJP has been deceiving the people of the State,” Pradyut Bordoloi said.

After having failed in the past 5 years, Home Minister Amit Shah, who has now become a regular visitor to Assam ahead of the Assembly elections has sought another 5 years from the people of Assam to solve the issue of floods in the State.
While speaking to the media in Nagaon district of Assam on Thursday, Amit Shah had said that the BJP vows to make Assam “flood-free”.
Notably, the BJP-led State Government in Assam in the last 5 years has failed miserably to address the issues of flood and erosion in the State.

Amit Shah had further stated that under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, conflict and violence in Assam decreased.
This statement from the Union Home Minister was also heavily criticised by Pradyut Bordoloi.
Pradyut Bordoloi slammed Amit Shah and the BJP for taking “credit of making Assam peaceful and militancy-free”.
“Then why is the Armed Forces Special Powers Act still in effect, and why has the State Government announced Assam as a ‘disturbed area’ for another six months under AFSPA?” Pradyut Bordoloi questioned.

On Thursday, Assam Congress Chief Ripun Bora had also hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for taking “credit for decrease conflict and violence in the State”.
Ripun Bora had stated that it was under the regime of the Congress that conflict and militancy came down in Assam.
Bora further accused Amit Shah of pushing Assam back to the days of conflict and militancy by introducing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
“It was the Assam Congress that brought Assam out of conflict and militancy. It was Amit Shah‘s CAA that pushed Assam back into conflict, curfews, and violence. Without peace there can be no progress. Assam wants Congress back,” Ripun Bora said.
