According to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, the election to the 126 seats of the Assam assembly will take place in three phases.

In the first phase, which will be held on March 27, 47 assembly constituencies will go to the polls.

The second phase will be held on April 1 and will see 39 constituencies go to the polls.

In the final phase on April 6,  40 constituencies will vote.

The result will be declared on May 2. The voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm.

The filing of nominations for the first phase will come to a close on March 9 while the last date for filing nomination for the second phase is March 17.

The filing of nominations for the final phase will come to an end on March 19.

With the announcement of poll dates, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect.
