Salaries of at least 6,700 contractual employees engaged with updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) are yet to be cleared, sources said.

โ€œAround 5,500 contractual employees of WIPRO also yet receive their salaries, because of which most of the employees have stopped their pending work at the various NRC Seva Kendras,โ€ the sources added.

The NRC process in the state is running without a โ€˜bossโ€™ after the former state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela was replaced by Hitesh Dev Sarma, who also went on a month leave.

Drawing guns both at the Centre and Assam government, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMS) said, โ€œIt is a conspiracy of the Centre and the Assam government that the salaries of these employees are stalled.โ€

โ€œWe demand the immediate release of the pending salaries of these employees,โ€ the KMSS added.

Over 19 lakh people were left out from the final NRC published on August 31 this year.
