Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio has approached the Centre seeking permission to start 5G network trials in India.
For doing it, the telecom giant wants to use network technology that they have developed.

This was reported by Business Standard quoting sources familiar with the development.
“If the 5G technology trials are successful, the design and technology for the equipment may be outsourced for manufacturing,” further reported Business Standard quoting the sources.
For promoting local telecom equipment manufacturing which pushed for local designing and manufacturing of telecom network equipment, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had released recommendations in August 2018.

“All telecom products meant for use in the telecommunication network or by consumer and marketed in the country should be classified as either fully finished imported products or Indigenous products,” TRAI noted in its recommendations.
“Indigenous products should be further classified into Made in India Products, Designed in India Products or Designed and Made in India Products,” TRAI added.
