The Tripura High Court has directed the Tripura government to regularize the pay of 962 science graduate teachers within the next six months.

A single bench of chief justice AA Kureshi on Friday asked the state government to provide regular salaries to these teachers along with their outstanding salaries and arrears of the past three years.

The high court pronounced the verdict in a plea by these teachers for regularization of their salaries.

The state government appealed that it was not possible to pay regular salaries to them, which the high court rejected.

The former left front government had recruited 962 science graduate teachers in 2012.

As per government rule, the teachers would get all benefits along with regular pay after completing five years of their fixed pay contractual service.

Senior lawyer, Purushottom Roy Barman said, “The science teachers were eligible for regular pay after their five-year contractual service ended on July 2017.”

“Nevertheless, the present state government is not willing to pay their regular salaries,” he said.
