Series of operations by security forces results in recovery of weapons cache in Manipur

Guwahati: Security forces deployed in Manipur have seized a cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and other combat materials over the past 48 hours.  

In a series of joint operations conducted in the districts of Churachandpur, Chandel and Thoubal, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles in collaboration with the Manipur Police and other security forces recovered 11 weapons and other combat materials from both hill and the valley regions, Defence PRO and spokesperson for Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh said in a press statement.

Based on a tip-off, an operation was launched by Indian Army in coordination with the Manipur Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Churachandpur district’s Thoroilok area on Tuesday, it added.

The joint operation resulted in the recovery of two country-made mortars (pompis), a country-made pistol, grenades, explosives, ammunition and other combat materials, it said.

Later in the day, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a .303 rifle, a single-barrel rifle, ammunition and other combat materials from Lamzang village in Churachandpur district, the statement added.

On the same day, the Assam Rifles while carrying out combing operations in areas between Songkhom and Gunjil villages recovered an automatic weapon, two pompis, a single-barrel gun, ammunition and other combat materials, it said.

On Wednesday, the Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police recovered a 9mm country-made pistol, a single barrel breech loading (SBBL) gun, two grenades, ammunition and other combat materials from Kwarok Maring village in Thoubal district, it added.  

The recovery of these weapons highlights the seamless cooperation between the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and other law enforcement agencies, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring security and safety of the region, it said.

With such operations, the security forces remain committed to their efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region, the statement added.
