Union health minister Harsh Vardhan on Friday laid the foundation stone for a medical college to be built at Mon district in Nagaland.

The District Hospital in Mon was approved for upgradation into a full-fledged Government Medical College in September last year.

The Nagaland Government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the establishment of a Medical College at Mon district on September 15, last year.

Union heath minister Harsh Vardhan was accompanied by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Lok Sabha MP Tokheho Yepthomi and Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom in the foundation laying ceremony.

Union health minister Harsh Vardhan said, “The new medical college will add to the Government’s sustained efforts for the growth and progress of the State.”

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said, “I’m grateful to union health minister for personally coming to lay the foundation stone of Medical College Mon. My proud privilege to be a part of the historic day. To provide health care to our people and particularly to the underprivileged and far-flung areas is a long cherished dream.”

“This is the beginning of our journey in fulfilling our dream. My best wishes to the Nagaland health department, citizens of Mon and to all of us and that we will partner in realizing our dream for the  welfare of the people,” CM Rio added.
