The NPCC hoped and prayed that he will stand firm and even rise above party politics to protect the interest of our people when the situation arises.

“Despite a heart-rending loss by a close margin, we are grateful to the people of Nagaland who exercised their conscience in voting for INC candidate to protect our belief, culture, traditions and way of life,” the NPCC communication department said in a release.

The Pradesh Congress expressed gratitude to NPF president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, secretary general and Rajya Sabha MP K G Kenye and all rank and file of the party for their magnanimity in whole heartedly extending their support to the Congress candidate despite the party having 26 MLAs.

It made special mention of Opposition leader T R Zeliang and the NPF legislators for their immense effort on the ground together with former candidates of the party.

“Their support to Congress to protect the interest of our people against the onslaught of communal forces is worth appreciating for all times to come,” the PCC said.

It also thanked party candidate K L Chishi for taking the challenge to fight Lok Sabha elections to defend the rights of our people and to be our voice in Parliament.

The NPCC said the Congress party workers at all levels deserved special mention for remaining steadfast in their commitment to the principles and ideologies of Indian National Congress for the past 16 years and for selflessly slogging out against all odds despite meagre or non-existent resources to bring the party candidate agonizingly close to victory.
