The Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of the Headquarters of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) recovered 762 gms of heroin worth Rs 3.4 crore at Hnahthial in Mizoram on Friday.

The seizure is a part of the Assam Rifles’ crusade against smuggling activities,

The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and the excise & narcotics department, based on specific information, the Assam Rifles said.

The approximate market value of the recovered heroin is estimated to be 3,42,90,000.

As the excise & narcotics department seized the contraband item, they also detained one individual in connection with the seizure.

Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border.

Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ has continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
