The anti-narcotics squad of excise and narcotics department and Assam Rifles personnel seized 128 grams of heroin and arrested two drug peddlers in connection with the seizure in Aizawl on Tuesday.
The news has been confirmed by the state excise and narcotics department in a statement.
The two arrested persons have been identified as 25-year-old Lalkima and 38-year-old Mangkhanpauva, both residents of Champhai near the India-Myanmar border, the statement said.
It suspected that the contraband worth Rs 3.5 lakh was smuggled from Myanmar.
The accused were booked under relevant sections of The Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the statement added.
The excise and narcotics department officials recently seized 309 grams of heroin worth over Rs 8 lakh at different places in Mizoram.
Three persons, including a Myanmarese, were arrested for possessing the contraband, a statement by the Excise and narcotics department said on February 18.
The statement said 258 grams of heroin were seized at New Hruaikawn village in Champhai district bordering Myanmar on February 17, 2021 at around 7:30 pm.
In connection with the seizure, 33-year-old Vanbiakliana, a resident of Khawmawi village in Myanmar’s Chin state, was arrested.
