Top actress and fashion icon of Manipur, Soma Laishram is all set to walk the ramp at the ongoing Northeast Festival 2019 in New Delhi.

She will be the showstopper at the event for Maxwell Yangoijam, one of Manipur’s top fashion designers who runs a fashion label, Kha Nganba.

Soma Laishram has been part of many fashion shows in the past.

The most recent one was an International fashion extravaganza ‘Asian Designer Week’ where she was the showstopper for a unique fashion show promoting the handlooms & textiles of Northeast India and Manipur.

A versatile personality known for her unique fashion sense, Soma has also been modelling alongside her career as an actress in Manipur.

She has walked the ramp as a showstopper in many fashion and cultural events earlier too.

Speaking about the festival Soma Laishram said, “I am grateful for this opportunity to be part of such a big initiative where I get to represent my state and region to the world.”

“I believe this festival is a great platform to showcase the unique cultures and talents of Northeast India,” she added.

At the Northeast Festival which is being held at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts at Janpath in New Delhi, Soma Laishram will be setting the ramp on fire in Maxwell Yangoijam’s creation which is inspired from the rich indigenous handloom of the Northeast.

“My collection is all about bringing out the best of Northeast India’s beautiful cultures and handloom works to the world in the hope to revive the traditional handloom industry packaged in the most modern and fashion-forward designs,” said Maxwell Yangoijam about his collection.

“I am also very thankful to the organizers for making me part of such a huge event and giving me this opportunity to connect the world with Northeast India through my work,” he further added.

This is the seventh edition of North East Festival where the entire facets of the Northeast can be found in one place.

Handlooms of Northeast India have always caught the attention of the world and the handloom fashion shows which are part of the festival will extensively display the fabrics and textiles of the Northeast in the works of talented designers from the region.
