Much to the convenience of the tax payers and citizens of Mangaldai town in Darrang district, the Mangaldai Municipal Board authority on Tuesday launched the citizen-centric online service system.
The service, launched throughout the Mangaldai Municipal area with the help of the facilitators of the Common Service Centre (CSC), is reportedly the first of its kind in the urban administration history of the entire Northeast.
In this connection, the Mangaldai Municipal Board authority organized a public function at Borpukhri Park of the town in presence of Mangaldai MLA Gurujyoti Das, director of municipal administration, Assam, Nazreen Ahmed, district development commissioner Sweety Gogoi Kalita, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) and executive officer of Mangaldai Municipal Board (MMB) Pankaj Chakravarty, chairman of MMB Pratap Bordoloi and State head of the CSC, Jnan Doley among others.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC Chakravarty, who has recently taken charge as the executive officer of the urban elected body, explained how the municipal administration has taken steps to bring 17 citizen-centric services including tax clearance certificates, resident certificates, business NOC, electrification NOC service under the online service thereby bringing the service more close to the tax payers to make it transparent, hassle-free and effective.
Chakravarty also highlighted the efforts to turn Mangaldai into a plastic pollution-free township for which he appealed to the residents and traders of the town to segregate the organic and non-biodegradable materials of day-to-day use and store in two different dustbins.
The Mangaldai Municipal Board authority also made a unique move in the waste disposal phenomenon by offering special uniforms and identity cards to all the rag-pickers and the cleanliness staff of the board.
A total of 71 meritorious students were felicitated under the municipal area, who secured more than 80 per cent marks in High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) final Examinations this year with gamosas, bundles of books, etc.
Earlier on the occasion of the World Environment Day, a mass awareness procession on environment protection, cleanliness against plastic pollution was taken out across the Mangaldai town.
