New motorcycles were gutted in Mangaldai town on Sunday night, in a devastating fire that engulfed a workshop of a Motorcycle sub dealer at around 11 o’ clock.

The workshop of the Adarsh Hero Servicing Centre, a sub dealer of Hero Motors, located behind its showroom at the LNB road caught fire before the fire fighting squad of Mangaldai with the help of local people got the situation under control in after almost three hours.

Superintendent of Police, Darrang Sreejith Thiraviam on Monday visited the spot to assess the necessary safety measures to be followed by the business establishment of such nature.

Meanwhile on being asked, proprietor of establishment Shyam Sukha informed to a total of twenty new vehicles and other repairing materials to the tune of more than Rs 15 lakhs was destroyed.

The proprietor also mentioned electric short circuit as the cause of the fire.
