The Kamrup Metro district administration has prohibited amusement activities like picnics along the areas of the Brahmaputra river bank in the entire district till the end of the picnic season.

Kamrup Metro DC Virendra Mittal has directed all police stations and outposts along with the circle officers to restrict picknicking along the Brahmaputra river bank.

The order also stated that at picnic spots other than the river bank, all picnic activities must be completed strictly by 4 pm.

During the winter season in Assam, picknickers frolic and gather in large numbers along the areas of water bodies and use sufficient quantity of non-biodegradable items like plastics which later make their way into the water and pollute the entire aquatic ecosystem.

The soil along the areas of water bodies is generally loose and wet in nature due to which there are high chances of vehicles getting stuck in such soil.

Such an incident occurred on the evening of December 23 at Hatisila, Chandrapur, in which around 200 vehicles were left stranded for the entire night due to the presence of loose soil on the riverbank, the district administration order stated.
