Dimapur police along with Assam police conducted a joint operation in the border areas of Dellai and New Field check gate bordering Dimapur district of Nagaland and Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Thursday.

The main objective of the joint exercise was to instil confidence among the people of the two states living in the border areas.

It was also aimed at curbing the presence and movement of anti-social elements from taking advantage of the porous border, PRO, Dimapur police, T. Relo Aye said.

The joint exercise will continue regularly in future to establish peace and a sense of security in the people, including traders, commuters and transporters, living in the border areas.

The exercise was carried out on the directive of Police Headquarters, Kohima and coordinated by the office of Dimapur commissioner of police and Karbi Anglong superintendent of police.

It may be mentioned that the Public Action Committee (PAC) of Naga Council Dimapur recently said it would deploy its volunteers in three check gates at Dimapur bordering Assam’s Karbi Anglong district to check extortion from trucks.

The three check gates are New Field check gate, Burma Camp check gate and Dillai check gate.

The committee has also written to Dimapur police with a request to deploy police force and provide police escort for safe passage of trucks in the three check gates.

In a letter to the Dimapur commissioner of police on Saturday, committee convenor Vekhosayi Nyekha and co-convenor Gokheto K. Chophy urged the police to strictly implement entry time of trucks to Dimapur from 5 am to 7 am and 7 pm to 10 pm.
