Assam social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma on Wednesday inaugurated the National Handloom Expo 2019-20 in Kokrajhar, near Gangjema bazar.

The 15-day expo is being held under the North Eastern Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERPTS) and is aimed at promoting the marketing of Indian hand-woven fabrics.

It is organized by the Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers & Artisans Cooperative Federation (BRAWFED) limited in collaboration with the Development Commissioner, Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, India.

Over 55 participants from Assam, Manipur, Haryana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattishgarh, Punjab, Delhi, Bihar etc. have participated in the expo.

The participants will be showcasing various handmade products from their respective states.

Besides the regular stalls, a customer assistance centre has also been set up for market survey and analysis of demands, needs and preference of buyers of Kokrajhar.

Musical nights, fashion show on Indian and Bodoland handloom woven fabrics, seminar, workshop, quiz etc will be organized during the expo.

BTC principal secretary Biren Chandra Phukan, Kokajhar deputy commissioner Partha Pratim Mazumdar, Kokrajhar Municipal Corporation chairman Bishnu Narzary and others attended the programme.

The National Handloom Expo will continue till 7 January.
