Veteran CPI leader Saifuddin Ali Hazarika on Thursday breathed his last at his residence in North Lakhimpur.
The 75-year-old CPI leader’s association with communism took him to the erstwhile USSR, Poland and East Germany (DDR) where he participated in international politics and governance in 1970s.

He also contested the parliamentary elections from the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency in 1991.
Saifuddin Ali Hazarika was also well known for his oratory skills and was involved with a number of social organizations in North Lakhimpur.

Hazarika is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
His will be laid to rest on Friday.
