Assam to witness Anti-CAA protests from December 24

Assam is all set to witness Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests from December 24 to 31.

Announcing this, the Chatra Mukti Sangra Samiti (CMSS), the Students’ wing of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), said that it will observe Anti-CAA week from December 24 to 31.

The CMSS informed that it will organise mass conventions in protest against the contentious CAA at Dhemaji, Golaghat and Tinsukia in Assam.

Notably, several organisations in Assam have launched Anti-CAA protests in different parts of the State.

Students’ fraternity-led by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have warned the Government not to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

On December 11, as many as 18 organisations in Assam, including AASU, KMSS, Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Lachit Sena along with students and other youth organisations re-launched Anti-CAA protests across the State demanding repeal of the controversial legislation.

The organisations have also demanded for the immediate release of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, who was arrested last year around the same time and since then have been lodged in jail.

It was on December 11 last year that the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was passed in the Parliament.

Meanwhile, in further boost to the CMSS, Dibrugarh University Students’ Union General Secretary – Rahul Chetri and B Baruah College Students’ Union General Secretary – Subrajit Baruah joined the CMSS.
