Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced on Wednesday that the state government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore, while the central government has allocated an additional Rs 100 crore, under the New Education Policy, for the infrastructure development of Dibrugarh University.

The funds will be utilized to upgrade academic hostels, laboratory equipment, and other facilities to transform the university into a Multidisciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) under the PM-USHA scheme.

Addressing a press conference, Minister Pegu stated, “We have discussed with the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and Heads of Departments to develop a roadmap for utilizing the Rs 200 crore.”

He added, “A reputed architect will be engaged to design new infrastructure with a futuristic approach.”

The university, which has 6,000 students this year, will also see upgraded sports facilities, with a Detailed Project Report expected soon.
