Imphal: Electoral Roll Observer Mohan Lal Meena, IAS, on August 25 directed election officials in Manipurโs Pherzawl district to ensure an inclusive, transparent and error-free electoral roll during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Meena, Secretary (Lok Ayukta/Commission of Inquiry), Government of Manipur, chaired a review meeting at the District Election Office (DEO), Pherzawl, to assess progress of the revision exercise. Pherzawl shares borders with Assam, Mizoram and Myanmar.
He reviewed electoral roll applications to assess the quality and transparency of the verification process and stressed that no eligible voter should be excluded from the revision exercise.
Meena also directed officials to ensure that citizens were not unnecessarily harassed for lack of documents during the SIR process. He asked election officials to promptly assist people facing difficulties in meeting the enumeration deadline.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Anunay Anand, IAS, received Meena at the DEO and attended the meeting along with the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) of the 55-Tipaimukh (ST) and 56-Thanlon (ST) Assembly Constituencies.
ADC and ERO Zousanglur Joute made a PowerPoint presentation on the SIR process. Superintendent of Police T. Lalboi Haokip and several District Level Officers also attended the meeting.
During the review, Meena heard concerns raised by officials and participants and assured them that the issues would be examined.
He later interacted with representatives of various political parties at the DEO office and called for their active participation and cooperation to ensure an accurate and inclusive electoral roll.
Meena also highlighted the importance of political parties appointing Booth Level Assistants (BLAs) to address public grievances and facilitate the revision process. Political party representatives shared their observations and were encouraged to extend constructive support throughout the exercise.
