Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the Assam Higher Secondary Council decided not to publish a toppers list this year to ensure that the focus remained solely on education.
Speaking to the media, the minister said, “The entire country is shifting to a more education-based focus instead of celebrations during exam results. We thought of doing a similar thing here as well.”
He said that the educational institutions in Assam should now focus more on education now that the results are out.

He also added that the toppers list was not published so that others do not get demotivated.
The minister further added that from next year onwards, the AHSEC and the SEBA will be merged.

The HS and HSLC exams would be held by one single board from next year, he said.
“The boards would have been merged by now but due to the model code of conduct, the process has been delayed. A resolution would soon be taken after the end of the electoral processes”, he said.
