The 20th death anniversary of Dr Pannalal Oswal, the renowned physician and social activist of Dhubri district has recently been observed with two days programme at the premises of Lion’s Club of Dhubri town.
On this occasion, a seminar on Women Empowerment conducted under the auspices of Dr Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee in which more than hundred girls and students of different higher secondary schools and colleges were attended.
The seminar was presided over by reputed musician and composer Nanda Neogi while it was anchored by assistant professor of Dhubri Girls College Juin Das respectively.
A number of prominent speakers including veteran academician Subrata Barua, Prof Nabanita Debi, Dhubri women police head Himakshi Nath, assistant inspector Mamoni Kumari and assistant teacher Roushan Mehtab addressed the seminar.
All the speakers spoke at a length on the right, protection, social behaviors, self-confidence of women and abuses of mobile phones and opined that these were some of areas which remain to be serious concern and should be focused accordingly.
Prof Juin Das while interacting with girl students has cautioned them to refrain from various matters and if necessary shares their problems and confidential matter with someone whom they trust most.
“But over and above, it is none but you only who can change your own life by sheer self-confidence and strong determination and positive attitude to fight all social evils and do something different,” said Das.
She also cited many examples of women who by their dedication, devotion and perseverance scaled high and brought laurels to the nation.
A demonstration of martial art by three teenage girls was also staged exhibiting as how girls could protect themselves from the anti-social elements and get rid of them.
Earlier, at onset of the programme, floral tribute was paid at the portraits of Dr Oswal in presence of large number of people.
It was followed by memorial meeting held under the president ship of Prof (Retd) Girendra Nath Goswami.
Member of the seminar committee J M Surana, social worker Raj Kumar Agarwala and Dr S Benerjee also spoke on the life and activities of Dr Oswal.
The member secretary of the committee Bimal Oswal presented an outline of various activities done by Dr Panallal Oswal Memorial Committee (DPOCM) since the last two decades.
