Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC), which is also known as ‘DISHA’ Committee.

The meeting was held at the conference hall of the office of Cachar DC in presence of Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri as the member secretary.

The meeting was also attended by MLAs from the district Dilip Kumar Paul, Mihir Kanti Shome, Rajdeep Gowala, Kishore Nath and Amar Chand Jain.

In presence of officials from various departments and representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, the meeting discussed the implementation of the central government schemes.

The DISHA committee was formed by the Central government with the objective of effective coordination of the developmental works for all the programs undertaken by the Central government including infrastructure, social and human resource development.

The committee would monitor the implementation of the schemes and programs of the Ministry of Rural Development and other ministries as well to promote and synergize for greater impact.

The chairman of the committee for Cachar district, Dr Rajdeep Roy, later talking to the media, said, “The committee would sit for four times a year and it would take stock of the progress of the Central government sponsored schemes in Cachar.”

Dr Rajdeep Roy also emphasized on reducing the infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate in Cachar district.
