The ABVP members alleged that a lot of names of illegal foreigners have entered the draft lists of NRC.

“Without deleting the names of illegal foreigners, publication of a free and fair NRC list is not possible,” the protestors said.

The joint coordinator of Cachar district ABVP, Mithun Biswas told Northeast Now, “We have taken out this protest rally to warn NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela that a lot of illegal foreigners’ names have found entry in the already published two draft NRC lists.”

Biswas added, “We have witnessed in the two draft NRC lists that there are some cases where parents’ names are enlisted while their children’s names are missing or vice versa.”

“All these errors have to be rectified,” said Biswas.

“Hajela has to delete those illegal entries and incorporate the genuine names which have been left out on or before August 31 when the final list is slated to come out,” he said.

“For any lapses in this regard he will have to face stern protests from the ABVP not only in this district but in Assam and the country as a whole,” Biswas further said.

Later, the protesting students submitted a memorandum mentioning about their demands to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Governor Jagadish Mukhi through the Cachar DC.

A memorandum was also handed over to Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy and Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul.
