After initiating steps to set up a Mini-Secretariat in Barak Valley, Assam government is now gearing up to convene the next cabinet meeting in Silchar.

For the first time in Assam’s political history, a cabinet meeting was held at Majuli, the largest river island in the world in September 2016.

Now, with the aim to bring the people of Brahmaputra Valley closer to Barak Valley, Assam’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will soon have his cabinet meeting in Silchar.

Rajdeep Roy, BJP’s MP from Silchar on Tuesday announced about Assam government’s plan to have the next cabinet meeting in Silchar.

Addressing a gathering on Tuesday, after performing a Bhumi Pujan for the Mini-Secretariat in Srikona, Roy said about the cabinet meeting in Silchar.

“Last week I received a phone call from Sarbananda Sonowal ji, and he asked me to arrange a cabinet meeting in Silchar,” the MP said.

The cabinet meeting in Silchar is being convened to assess the need for all round development of Barak valley, Roy said.

The date for the cabinet meeting at Silchar has not been finalised as yet.

“The cabinet meeting would be an icing in the cake,” the BJP MP said, adding that the Bhumi Pujan for the Mini-Secretariat is a clear indicator that the NDA government led by Sonowal is sincere to bring about development in the Barak valley.
