Nearly 5000 persons belonging to the Congress and AIUDF in the Dhubri district have reportedly joined the BJP.

The saffron party has been conducting a membership in the district ahead of the state assembly elections that are scheduled to take place next year.

A statement issued by the BJP on Saturday claimed that a large number of Congress and AIUDF workers from Dhubri, Golakganj, Gauripur assembly constituencies will join the party.

Meanwhile, around 150 persons from the Congress and AIUDF were inducted into the party during a similar membership drive on Saturday at Howrarpar Goan Panchayat under Dhubri constituency in the presence of BJP’s Dhubri district president Debamoy Sanyal.

All the new members have pledged to work for the betterment of the people of the area under the party leadership said a BJP source.

The BJP has one MLA in the Golakganj constituency, while the AIUDF  has two MLAs in Dhubri and Gauripur constituencies.
