An advocate has been arrested by Gauripur Police in the Dhubri district for cheating a youth of Rs 3 lakh with a government job offer.

The advocate, identified as Monirul Islam, a resident of Geramari village under Gauripur police station in Dhubri district, was arrested on Thursday evening.

The youth, who was cheated by the advocate, has been identified as Safiqul Hoque.

“The accused claimed that he knew several high-level officials serving in various government departments and even minister through whom he could provide jobs,” sources said.

Initially, the advocate collected Rs 2.5 lakh from the youth and later collected another Rs 50,000 from the victim and a deal was fixed at Rs 5 lakh.

According to the agreement, the victim was supposed to pay the balance amount after receiving the joining letter.

However, after a couple of months, the victim somehow came to know that he was cheated.

He lodged a complaint before the Gauripur police station.

Based on the complaint lodged by the victim, the police arrested Monirul Islam.
