Archery championship

The 5th edition of the State Level Archery Championship organised by the Keithelmanbi Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis headquarters IGAR (South) concluded recently.

The event is aimed at providing a platform for promoting and encouraging archery in Manipur, according to a press release.

A total of 125 archers from 16 archery clubs from across Manipur participated in the competition which was held in three different categories namely Indian, Recurve and Compound rounds.

Majpr Gen KP Singh, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) was the Chief Guest at the closing function held on October 6 at Keithelmanbi Garrison, about 15 km west of Imphal.

The guest of honour for the event was B Chaoba Sharma, who was recently felicitated by the Governor of Manipur with ‘Governor Innovation Award’ on October 3 for his contribution to archery while Dolen Laishram, Vice President of Manipur Archery Association and Sonachand Sharma Joint Secretary of Manipur Archery Association were also present.

The Manipur Archery Association appreciated the initiatives of Assam Rifles especially in the sporting arena and advised the archers of the State to work harder so that they can bring laurel to the State and the nation as well.

Medals were presented to the winners of the competition by the Chief Guest.

In the Individual Recurve Men, Kh Rohit NSA Club clinched gold medal while MD Aman Ali NSA Club and AK Amarjit Singh NSA Club got silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the women Recurve event, Th Sanai, SAIR Club, stood first, Y Anupama Devi, NSA Club and KSH Manglemsana, VAA Club secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

In Individual Compound Women, Sh Manorama, SAIRC Club lifted gold while M Rupan Devi, SAIRC Club and Dulina Devi, ACE Club received silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the men category S Ramakanta Sharma, GAC Club, S Rajendro, SAIRC Club and M Bikram Singh, UA Club stood at 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, it added.

In the Indian round men, Ch Borish, BCA Club, clinched gold while Rustum, YA Club and K Arnold Singh, AA Club clinched silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the women category, Chirom Debiya Devi,SICA Club stood first while P Soniya Devi, YA Club and M Aruna Devi, MPS Club stood 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

In addition to the medals, the winners were also awarded certificates and cash award, it said.
