Guwahati: Tezpur University (TU) has introduced a Master of Arts (MA) in Women’s Studies program, aimed at fostering critical thinking, research, and advocacy for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The program was officially inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh on Wednesday.

Prof. Singh spoke on the program’s role in equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of gender, sexuality, and women’s experiences across diverse societal contexts.
He highlighted the program’s blend of theoretical coursework, practical training, and fieldwork opportunities.
Prof. Farheena Danta, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, expressed confidence that the program will provide students with a strong foundation in women’s studies, enabling them to address critical issues related to women’s rights, gender-based violence, and social justice.

Prof. Madhurima Goswami, Head of the Centre for Women Studies, highlighted the program as a culmination of persistent efforts.
She expressed hope that the program will serve as a platform for multidisciplinary research and collaboration with field experts.
The inauguration ceremony also witnessed the launch of the Centre’s new webpage. A total of 27 students, including international students, have enrolled in the program.
Later, the Vice Chancellor attended a program commemorating Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, an annual national observance honoring the sacrifices made during India’s partition.
