A day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her fortress itself over the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the TMC was quick to react accusing the saffron party of playing communal politics over NRC in Assam.
Accusing the BJP of ‘segregating the illegal migrants as refugees and infiltrators on religious basis,’ West Bengal Urban Development Minister and TMC leader Firhad Hakim on Sunday, said BJP’s policy is to ‘divide and rule’, according to agencies reports.
He also said BJP president Amit Shah is indulging in communal politics over NRC.
Addressing a huge rally at the heart of Kolkata on Saturday, Shah said the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updating in Assam has been targeted for malicious propaganda by Trinamul Congress and its leader Mamata Banerjee.
The BJP president also asserted that no refugee (read Bengali Hindu) will be send back from India.
Hakim alleged that the BJP is segregating the migrants – a Hindu is a refugee and a Muslim an infiltrator.
The TMC had also took out a rally against the NRC on Sunday.
