A total of 12 organizations of Assam have started economic blockade of Nagaland from Friday and staged sit-in demonstration at Amguri in Sivasagar district on the National Highway 61 along the Assam-Nagaland border.
The indefinite economic blockade has been launched following protests by Naga people against establishment of a BOP in F sector of the Assam-Nagaland border.
The activists of All Assam Tai Ahom Students’ Union (AATASU), Ahom Sena, Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha, Chatra Muti Sangram Samiti, Chah Sramik Muti Sangram Samiti, All Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (AATTSA), Krishak Muti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Sadou Asom Tai Yuva Chatra Parishad, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Sadou Adivasi Chatra Santha and Ahom Gana Mancha gathered at Amguri Haluwating along the Assam-Nagaland border on Friday and launched the economic blockade of Nagaland.
The activists of the 12 organizations staged sit-in demonstration on the NH-61 near Amguri Tea Estate and shouted slogans like ‘Naga go back’, ‘Amar Mati Amr Dabi’, etc.
The organizations also demanded the authorities concerned to stop illegal Naga activities along the border area, establish pre-sanctioned BOP at Haluwating, immediately shift the Nagaland check gate situated at Haluwating to a land under Nagaland, eviction of the Nagaland check gate and safeguarding of life and property of the bordering people.
In order to safeguard the border area people, a BOP was sanctioned in the F sector of Assam-Nagaland border but the people of Nagaland have raised voice against it by claiming the area belonging to them which led to the economic blockade launched by the organisations of Assam.
On Friday, Sivasagar Additional Deputy Commissioner Bidit Das, Additional Superintendent of Police Bolin Deuri and Amguri Revenue Circle officer Mousumi Chutia rushed to the spot and had discussions with the protestors.
