Dalai Lama hospitalised in Delhi for chest infection

The spiritual leader was in the capital last week to attend a global conference of educators and students before going back to Dharamsala at the end of the conference

Tibetan spiritual leader The Dalai Lama has been hospitalised in New Delhi on Tuesday after he complained of some mild discomfort, as per reports.

Reports say that he is undergoing treatment for a chest infection at Max hospital in the capital but is said to be in a stable condition.

The Dalai Lama had been flown down to New Delhi from his residence in Dharamsala for consultations with his doctors.

“Yes, he underwent a check-up at the hospital. He generally visits Max facility for his check-ups,” a source said in a statement.

The Dalai Lama was in the capital last week to attend a global learning conference of educators and students where he addressed delegates from over 35 countries.

At the end of the conference, the spiritual leader had gone back to Dharamsala.

At the conference, the Dalai Lama spoke about the necessity of accomplishing ‘internal disarmament’ before hoping to achieve disarmament externally.

He also talked about making the subject of compassion an important part of school curriculum and said that present education system only makes individuals run after material things.

He said, at the conference, that the 21st century has seen a lot of killings and sufferings in the form of World War I, World War II and others and that the the younger generation must work towards making a peaceful 21st century.

The 83-year-old revered Tibetan in exile, who has been travelling around the globe to spread the message of peace, spirituality and highlight Tibet’s struggle for autonomy and freedom from Chinese occupation, has now, reportedly cut down on his travel schedules to take care of his aging health.

The iconic Buddhist monk has, however, expressed that he was not seeking independence for Tibet and would rather prefer a ‘reunion’ with China under mutually accepted terms.
