The arrested persons have been booked under The Foreigners Act, 1946.
โThe passport and visa documents of all foreigners staying in the city are being checked,โ Rao further said.
The arrest was made a day after the Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai announced of creating a database of illegal immigrants and overstaying citizens in Karnataka.
Recently Bomnai said, โKarnataka is one of the states where across the border people are coming and settling down.โ
โThere are a lot of issues here. Therefore we are collecting all the information, we will discuss (NRC) with Amit Shah and then go ahead,โ the minister had said.
The Karnataka government, however, later decided to create a database of illegal immigrants and overstaying foreign citizens instead of going for an NRC-like exercise.
