The World Health Organization (WHO) on Sunday reported a record increase in global coronavirus cases with a total rising by 2, 30,370 in the last 24 hours.

According to the WHO, the total number of global coronavirus cases is 1,25,52,765 so far.

The organization in its report stated that a total of 5285 deaths were recorded globally in the last 24 hours taking the total COVID-19 death toll to 5,61,617.

The previous WHO record for new cases was 2,28,102 on July 10.

Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 tally on Monday reached 878,254, after a total of 28701 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The death toll in the country now stands at 23174 with 500 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

The total number of active coronavirus cases in the country is 301609 while a total of 553470 have been discharged or cured of the disease so far.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state in the country with a total of 254427 cases and 10289 deaths so far.

The second worst-affected state Tamil Nadu has reported 138,470 infections and 1,966 fatalities.

India still continues to be the third worst-hit country that has been affected by the coronavirus crisis, according to John Hopkins University tally.

The United States remains the most affected and now has 3,413,936 coronavirus cases and 137,782 deaths.

The second worst-hit country Brazil has recorded 1,866,176 cases and 70,524 deaths so far.
