A Tribal Health and Wellness Centre was inaugurated in Shillong on Thursday.

The Centre known as “Mebaai Tribal Health and Wellness Centre (Indigenous Holistic Therapies and Kerala Massage)” was inaugurated by senior citizen, Serina Wahlang in the presence of Health Minister, AL Hek and a host of dignitaries at Golflinks.

The centre is being set up in partnership with Vasudeva Vilasam, Kerala to provide people with the unique healing of Ayurveda and experience the benefits of traditional Khasi massage.

According to Hek, the centre will see the convergence of Ayurveda and Khasi traditional healing systems.

The convergence of the two systems will be beneficial for the state of Meghalaya that housed more than 3,000 medicinal herbs and plants besides a large number of traditional healers.

“This concept of indigenous holistic therapy with Kerala massage will boost health tourism in the State as well as promote our own traditional healers and medicines through an organised platform,” he said.

Dr. Pradeep Jyoti of Kerala informed that Vasudeva Vilasam has practised Ayurveda system of healing and health care through a wide array of institutions since 1884. It was a profound voyage of discovery inspired by unflagging devotion to the purest form of medicine.

Dr. Pradeep said that they will develop medicines for various diseases and take the Khasi healing system to a different level altogether. Apart from it, he expressed his keenness to have skill development programmes for the youths by setting up institutes for their training and to set up factories for manufacturing traditional medicines.

Dr. H Bani, a well known traditional healer and an expert on medicinal plants at NEHU informed the gathering on the different types of medicinal plants found in Meghalaya.

He urged everyone to spread the message about the Centre and about the different types of treatment available at the centre.
