The Population Research Centre (PRC), Kerala has designated a team of two officers to monitor health activities in Assam’s Sivasagar district with effect from October 21-23.

The monitoring officers of PRC under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) are – Dr. Suresh Kumar S and Dr. Rajesh J Nair.

The team visited various hospitals and health centres across the district and took detailed stock of the health facilities and status of ongoing health programmes and schemes in the district.

The team also met the deputy commissioner Dr. MS Lakshmi Priya on October 22 and had a detailed discussion on the present health scenario of the district.

They appreciated the hard work of the doctors and medical staff and opined that if they keep up putting their best efforts, then the district would definitely make it to the awards like Kayakalp and LaQshya.

The deputy commissioner apprised that four hospitals have been prepared in this regard and all concerned are doing their best to excel.

It may be noted that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India has established a network of 18 Population Research Centres (PRCs) in various States.

The network has been established to promote critical research activities relating to health and family welfare programmes at the national and state level.

These PRCs are mandated to undertake monitoring and evaluation of such programmes.

The outputs received from these PRCs are widely used for mid-course correction of ongoing programmes and schemes, formulation of policy by the Ministry by researchers as well as other stakeholders.

The PRCs are involved in the monitoring of various important components of the National Health Mission (NHM), Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) of selected districts and their reports have been found extremely useful to the ministry and the programme implementing agencies in the concerned states.

The ministry has identified 488 districts across the country in consultation with the PRCs for PIP monitoring in the year 2019-20.
