Mizoram Ruling Party Urges Centre to Reconsider Protected Area Regime Reimposition The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), the ruling party in Mizoram, has urged the Centre to review its decision to reinstate the Protected Area Regime (PAR) in the state, citing concerns that it would hinder tourism development and restrict the movement of ethnic Mizos living abroad. In a statement, the ZPM expressed strong opposition to the reimposition of the PAR, which was relaxed 13 years ago. The party argued that the decision would obstruct the state government's efforts to attract tourists, as foreigners would now require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to visit Mizoram. The ZPM also pointed out that the reimposition of the PAR would restrict the movement of ethnic Mizos living in foreign countries, particularly Bangladesh and Myanmar, into Mizoram. The party's concerns come after the Centre reimposed the PAR in Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland on Tuesday, citing growing security concerns due to influx from neighbouring countries ¹.
