National Liberation Force of Tripura militant surrenders before BSF

With just a couple of days left for the general election, a National Liberation Front of Tripura (Biswamohan faction) surrendered before the Border Security Force (BSF) at Ambassa under Dhalai district of Tripura on Saturday.

The militant has been identified as Sachindra Reang (47) of Khantlang village under Vanghmun police station in North Tripura district and was operating from the Segunbagan base camp of the NLFT in Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) in Bangladesh.

The fugitive militant had contacted the BSF intelligence cell deputy commandant D M Punethwa and desired to return to normal life.

Today, he surrendered before DIG SHQ BFS Teliamura Baby Joseph and Suresh Chandra, second-in-command at his 71 battalion headquarters in Ambassa.

BSF appreciated and welcomed the returnee for denouncing violence and returning to normal life.

It may be mentioned last year at least six NLFT militants surrendered before the BSF.

To motivate more surrender of militants the government has recently revised the scheme of monthly stipend for returnees and increased it from Rs 3500 to Rs 6000 and a one-time grant from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
