The Centre has issued maximum alert to the personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) guarding the Indo-Bangladesh international border in the wake of escalating tension with Pakistan.

The BSF high-ups have issued an alert and taken all preventive measures at the India-Bangladesh border to thwart any untoward incident along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Stringent measures are taken to ensure that no trouble monger or terror element can cross over from Bangladesh to fuel more tension in the country.

India shares a long stretch of international border with Bangladesh stretching from states like West Bengal to north-eastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura, while most of the portions are still unfenced.

Patrolling in the riverine border areas has also been heightened.

Tensions have been running high since at least 49 CRPF jawans were killed in a suicide car bombing by suspected Pakistan-based militants in Kashmir on February 14 last.

On Tuesday last, Indian Air Force fighter planes launched an air strike and claimed to have killed as many as 300 militants in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
