Padmashree Award winning conservationist and brand ambassador of Clean and Green Village campaign in Assam, Jadav Payeng on Friday inaugurated the project in Lakhimpur district.

Popularly known as the Forest Man of Assam, Payeng inaugurated the Clean and Green project by planting a sapling in Zoihing village, some 10 kms away from district headquarter North Lakhimpur.

Inaugurating the project, which aims to give a sense of responsibility among the villagers of maintaining an eco-friendly environment, the  internationally acclaimed environmentalist urged the local villagers to protect and promote the environment and ecology for sustainability of the coming generation.

An awareness meet was held on that occasion at Zoihing Karam Bhawan which was organized by the district Public Health and Engineering department. Addressing the public on that occasion Jadav Payeng spoke on Clean & Green Village mission initiated by My Gov Assam.

He appealed to the public and younger people as well as the student community to save the environment from being destroyed by manmade advancements. He also asked to inculcate the habit of planting one tree every day, instead of spending much for it on specific occasions.

Payeng, who has got international recognition for creating single-handedly a forest off the Brahmaputra near Jorhat, said there was no alternative of plantation to combat global warming and clinmate change. Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Jeevan B. and My Gov Assam team member Deepjyoti Handique also attended the inauguration programme of Clean and Green Village in Zoihing.
