This year’s award went to Padmashri Jadav Payeng, the Forest Man of India, who has become famous for creating his own forest by simply planting trees over the years, he said. The award consisted of a Memento, a Xarai, and Rs 15,000 in cash.

Payeng in his speech exhorted upon all present to propagate the campaign for planting more trees. He suggested that a student on admission to a school should plant one tree to ensure oxygen for herself/himself.

After five years, she/he should plant another three to provide oxygen for another person. This way, we can ensure enough oxygen for all along with a healthy environment for mankind.
