Personnel of Assam Forest and Veterinary Departments are hot on the trail of the Royal Bengal Tigress for the last couple of days and efforts are on to capture the tigress and tranquilise her. It has been quite some time that the tigress has strayed away from the Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve Project and is giving sleepless nights to the Forest Department personnel as well as creating havoc in the nearby villages in Udalguri district of Assam.

A team of veterinary surgeons mounted on four elephants led by Dr Bhaskar Choudhury and Dr Prabhat Basumatary – and all armed with tranquilisers are hot on the pursuit of the tigress 24×7. The veterinary surgeons’ team is in hot chase after few labourers of Borgorha Tea Estate reported on Friday that they had “sighted” the tigress and she was also captured in the camera kept for the purpose by the Forest Department officials.

Chakrapani Rai, Range Officer of Orang Tiger Reserve Project has confirmed that the tigress indeed belongs to Orang Tiger Reserve and was identified and recorded as ‘No 3’ in the last Tiger Census. “The tigress bears the No – ‘No 3’ in our last survey. There are few reports coming in that the tigress has killed domestic pigs and she has presently been sighted between Borgorha Tea Estate and Borobagisha Kathoni area – both are few kilometres away from the Orang Tiger Reserve boundary,” Range Officer Rai stated.

“We are making all-out efforts to capture the tigress – like bringing in a team of veterinary surgeons armed with tranquilisers and an iron cage is ready for capturing the straying Royal Bengal tigress. Everything that we have done have drawn a blank till date,” Rai lamented.
