A full-grown male leopard was caged on Wednesday at Haldibari Chetia Gaon in the Khowang range under upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
According to locals, for the last five years, the leopard has been creating a reign of terror in the area by killing many domestic animals.
The leopard was caged at around 3 am on Wednesday morning.
The cage was placed at Chetia Gaon to trap the leopard.
“On August 14, we brought the iron cage from the forest department to trap the animal. We are very much happy that the leopard was successfully trapped in the cage,” said Bibhu Gogoi, a local resident.
He said, “For the past several years, the leopard has been creating terror in our area. The leopard has killed many cattle heads. After several requests, the forest department provided us the cage. We placed the iron cage on August 14 and today it was trapped.”
“There are many leopards in the area and we request the forest department to provide us the cage for some more days to trap those leopards too,” Gogoi said.
On August 25, a two-year-old female leopard was successfully rescued by a team of Dibrugarh forest department at Jalan Tea estate in Dibrugarh.
