The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is all set to re-launch its Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in the State.

The AASU has announced a series of Anti-CAA protest programmes, which will begin on January 22.

A three-day Anti-CAA protest programme will be launched by the AASU in every districts of Assam demanding scraping of the CAA.

This was informed by AASU President Dipanka Nath during his visit to Dibrugarh.

“Our Anti-CAA protests will continue till it is not scrapped. We will start a 3-day protest programme from January 22 across Assam,” said AASU President Dipanka Nath.

On January 22, the apex students’ body in Assam will take out massive torch rallies in every district of the State demanding scraping of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act.

On January 23, all AASU activists will be wearing black badges to register their protest against CAA.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit Jerenga Pathar in Assam’s Sivasagar on January 23, where he is likely to distribute land pattas to over 1 lakh beneficiaries in a public function.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Assam to address a rally in Sivasagar where he will again make false assurances to the people of the State, just like every time. This time we would not tolerate such false promises,” said AASU President Dipanka Nath.

On January 24, the AASU members will burn copies of the CAA and hoist black flags in every district of the State.

“Our language, culture and identity is under threat. The Government cannot imposed CAA in Assam by violating Assam Accord. The Act is anti-people and undemocratic,” said newly appointed AASU General Secretary Shankar Jyoti Baruah.

Further slamming the Government, AASU General Secretary Shankar Jyoti Baruah said, “The Government miserably failed to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. The High-Level Committee on Assam Accord submitted its report long ago but the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP Government in the State has failed to implement the recommendations.”

The AASU further intensifying its attack on the BJP Government in Assam said that it failed to seal the porous IndiaBangladesh border in the last 5 years of regime.

“The Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP Government had assured to seal Indo-Bangla border during the last Assembly Elections in 2016, but in failed to do so in the five years of their regime,” said AASU President Dipanka Nath.
